Head of the Riverfront

09/29/2018

Head of the Riverfront 2018 .. what a day it was! Great weather, which always makes a regatta memorable (in a good way) Tremendous current, which always makes a regatta memorable (in a bad way) And some good races with plenty to take away and use for the next regatta. A few shout outs: Our Womens Junior Novice 4x kept their heads together in a very challenging situation at the finish. The gold medal for being fastest was impressive, but remaining calm was the real victory. With two rowers in their their first race and one in their first race sculling, they stayed focused and worked it out, BRAVO! Andrew in his first head race in a single. Rowing in a single is hard, rowing it for 27 minutes into that current with no coxswain or fellow rower for motivation. He showed amazing character and is a true fighter and survivor raising the GRR bar even higher for us all, BRAVO! Our Women's Junior double, two girls well below "lightweight", they rowed with strength and stamina but more importantly with "smarts." Using technique to push into the current, cutting the tightest course line to a 6th place finish out of 17 with only 24 seconds between them and second place, BRAVO! With several other great results, many missing medals by as little as 15 - 20 seconds, we look forward to finding those seconds this coming weekend at the Housatonic!
